About Chennai
Geography
On the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. The Adyar and Cooum shape the city; Mahabalipuram sits south along the East Coast Road. Inland, the plateau leads toward Kanchipuram and the rest of Tamil Nadu.
History
Madraspatnam, Fort St George (1639), a British presidency, and a Tamil cultural capital. Carnatic music, cinema and the Dravidian temple belt all meet here. Mylapore is older than the colonial fort.
Climate and weather
Hot and humid. November–February is the sanest window. Avoid long outdoor midday in April–June. Northeast monsoon (Oct–Dec) can flood roads — we watch the forecast.

Chennai is the hub. Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram are the classic day trips. Pondicherry is better as an overnight.
